Porsche has added the capability for its customers to use the Tesla app to find and use electric vehicle chargers, according to a press release from the automaker.
As of Sept. 9, Porsche EV drivers can use the Tesla Supercharger network to charge their vehicles, resulting in an additional 23,500 public EV chargers available to Porsche EV customers.
The release added that “in the coming months,” Porsche drivers will be able to use the My Porsche app to enable charging. Porsche is the latest company to announce it is joining the Tesla charging network, following nearly every major EV brand including Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Lucid, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Polestar, Rivian and Volvo. Porsche’s parent company, Volkswagen Group of America, announced in December 2023 that its brands will join the Supercharger network by adopting the North American Charging Standard in 2025.
“We are continually working to make every aspect of Porsche ownership as convenient as possible for our customers,” Timo Resch, president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America, said in a statement. Over the next months, the company “will be adding more features to make the [EV charging] process even more seamless,” he said, without revealing specifics.
Access to the Tesla Supercharger network will require a NACS DC adapter for existing Porsche EVs, though Porsche will provide free adapters to many of its EV customers. According to the company, all model year 2026 Porsche Taycan and Macan Electric vehicles — arriving on Porsche dealer lots this fall — will include a free NACS DC adapter. Owners of Macan Electric vehicles and model year 2025 Taycan vehicles can reserve their complimentary NACS DC adapters via the My Porsche app. However, owners of model year 2024 and earlier Taycan vehicles will need to purchase the NACS DC adapter, which is $185 and available from the Porsche online shop and at local Porsche dealers.
The 2026 Porsche Cayenne EV, set to be available next year, will have a built-in NACS port.
All Porsche EV software will eventually be updated to include navigation information for the newly available chargers. According to Porsche, model year 2026 Porsche Taycan and Macan Electric vehicles will already have these updates when these new vehicles become available this fall. Model year 2024 and 2025 Macan Electric vehicles will receive the updates before the end of 2025, after which model year 2025 and earlier Taycan vehicle software will be updated.
Most EV brands have unveiled or planned vehicle accessibility with the Tesla network, and as such, nearly all EVs will be able to access Superchargers by the end of 2025.
